Preparing and Cooking Dinner with Kids

School Holiday Activity

Preparing and cooking dinner with kids is a great way to spend time together. The joy of cooking is awesome.

The three little ones learnt how to safely use appliances and utensils. They did their fair share cleaning up kitchen messes too (with the command of the head chef!).

However, be prepared with the challenge. Getting kids to participate in kitchen is really challenging....challenging one's patience!!

岩陀叶 Leea Indica 火筒树

Leea Indica 火筒树
岩陀叶
Memali, Babangan, Sisiton, Minipon

This herbal plant has been with us since 2010., don't remember which month though. Initially,  papa asked me to drink it for my cough and wishing that it might help me as a thalassemia carrier...and on...and on....

Papa spotted a nice corner of my backyard...and there....my Leea Indica has since adapting elegantly. It is a joy seeing it bloom and prosper now.

Papa said, I may drop a few fresh leaves into a teapot, pour in boiling water, and drink it on and off...enjoy sipping!!!!

Oh yes, like Sabah Snake Grass, Leea Indica is believed to be effective as traditional herbal cancer treatment too. From my reading, Leea Indica is quite similar to Sabah Snake Grass, they can be used for home remedies of other illnesses.

Research Article

Leea indica Ethyl Acetate Fraction Induces Growth-Inhibitory Effect in Various Cancer Cell Lines and Apoptosis in Ca Ski Human Cervical Epidermoid Carcinoma Cells

and I have read more information of Leea Indica treatment on this blog http://u-turn-grass.blogspot.com/2011/08/2.html

...translated Leea Indica cancer treatment as follows:

Leea Indica Cancer Treatment:

Fresh leaves:
  • cut 4-5 washed leaves into small pieces, boil with 2 bowls of water.
  • boil until it remains with 1 bowl of water.
  • drink once daily for 100 days.

Dried leaves:
  • boil 83g dried leaves with 2.5l of water for 1.5 hours.
  • drink 100ml twice daily, i.e.before breakfast and dinner
  • encouraging results after 2-3 weeks

Sabah Snake Grass 沙巴蛇草

Two weeks back, mother-in-law brought me a small pot of Sabah Snake Grass. Apparently, this is a traditional herbal plant that can treat cancer and other sicknesses as follows:

  • Sore throat
  • Uric acid
  • Gout
  • Uterine fibroid
  • Kidney problems
  • Prostate inflammation
  • Skin problems like eczema, shingles, and psoriasis
Also effective for:
high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high uric acid and diabetes, anemia, lower cholesterol, liver disease, hepatitis B,Jaundice, kidney disease, diuresis, bone fracture, painkiller, infection, pms, cut, stomach pain, food poisoning, blood cleanser, sprain injury, clear heat, poisonous snake bite, scorpion string, nettle rash, detoxification, diabetes, bruise, diuresis, kill germs, fever, rheumatism, haematoma, contusion, dysentery, dysuria (painful or difficult urination) and deep tissue abscess too.
Sabah Snake Grass is now with my brother, whom I guess and trusted... can grow and care for it more than I can . He is a plant lover...and I am afraid, I might be plant killer :  (

Though the effect is not scientifically proven, I do wish to have more Sabah Snake Grass.... for... there is a hope of life, there is a chance to live...

https://picasaweb.google.com/kenwee.kee/Cameron2012

The last trip to Cameron was back in 31 August 2008, National Day. The trip was without Ern Nee : (

Sliding through our photos to Cameron, 2008, sweetie used to ask sadly "Where is Ern Nee, mom?"...not once, a few times, indeed.

Cameron was always in my mind since last year....

I wanted very much to make it complete.... I wanted to have Ern Nee in our album, five of us in the album. YES, this is it, hAhA

14 & 15 April 2012 Melaka, Home Sweet Home

Longing for food, Melaka food..... ridiculous? I managed to sapu the followings:

I am going to share this with my two jealous daughters haHAAA, very jealous indeed!

https://picasaweb.google.com/kenwee.kee/SurpriseGift

Recipe: Pineapple Tart

  • 250g unsalted butter (I love SCS butter)
  • 50g icing sugar
  • 1 egg york
  • 280g sifted superfine flour
  • 80g sifted corn flour
  • 2tbsp sifted custard powder

*Add all and mix well with hands.

https://picasaweb.google.com/kenwee.kee/PineappleTart

*1 egg york (brush a layer of egg york in the middle of each tart)
Bake for 15-20 mins, 180 Celsius

Notes:
Different brand of butter gives different result. With SCS butter, the pineapple tart is buttery and melt-in-the-mouth!
For beginner, do buy sufficient ready made pineapple paste/jam. Preparing the jam is rather a trouble for me.
